SET ONE
December 12th
KKFS - "First Day, Some Lake"
F.S. Torres hails from Rio de Janeiro and started experimenting with tape loops and other no-fi audio manipulations in the early 80's. After going through many musical phases and bands and alter egos over the years, in 2003 he released one of my favorite albums 'Qu'est-ce Qu'il Fait Chaud?'. He also runs his own label called Menthe de Chat.
December 13th
KiloWatts - "Glob Story"
Jamie Watts has been making music most of his life, starting with the piano as a kid and ending up with an array of computer equipment, software, and collaborators now as a twentysomething. He helped spearhead Soulseek Records and also played recently at the Lab30 festival in Germany. Check out his site here, or the sounds he makes as part of KiloWatts & Vanek.
December 14th
Ruairi Lazers - "Blown Subs"
Using a combination of live and electronic drums in his performances, he's wowwed dance crowds as far away as Ireland (performing at Glenart) and also a bit closer to home at the large Shamhala festival in Nelson, BC. If you want to hear more you can listen to Complicated Profession, an EP he released last year on Panospria, and also take a look at his site if you want to catch one of his gigs which you should.

Rochie - "The White Grass Bending"
Rochie runs his own netlabel called Drift, which is relatively new but already has four solid releases under its belt, including albums from DoF and Sinestetici. He's also a constant contributor to Soulseek Records where you'll find more of his own tunes.

December 16th
Bogsnarth - "Acid Casualty"
Bogsnarth the Unpredictable is a bit of a mystery, although we do know he's another product of the slskrex community and that he released an EP called 'Which Cat Stole My Drugs?', that you can download here. It also has one of the greatest album covers you'll ever see, take a look.
December 17th
Spark - "The World Has Spoken
and Blowing Things Up Is Good"
Vancouver's Matthew Willcox has undergone a number of style changes over the years but his music is never boring, from pleasantly twisting robotic melodies, to 12-bit mayhem, to getting mugged on the streets for his gear, and now to this. He's released albums for n5MD and en:pegdigital as well as contributing songs to EM411.
December 18th
dgoHn - "Roasted"
Londoner dgoHn (aka John) just released a really good EP on Exegene called Vase that you can download at the site, and also has stuff upcoming on both Subtle Audio as well as Counter Intelligence. Also to look out for is a live show he's working on with fellow drumfunker Macc.

Darren McClure - "Dec_19"
I found Darren's music mistakenly, while browsing archive.org for other local Vancouver artists and coming to the conclusion he was one of us, when in fact he's an Irishman now living in Japan. But it was a happy accident since it introduced me to the serene mirco-music that makes up Zonal Sounds. Besides that release on 2063music, you can also find him on Stanardklikmusic and Test Tube.

December 20th
Aligning Minds - "sEkrAt"
This rural Maryland duo of Michael Folk and Daniel Merrill is all about unity and sensory exploration, and while they've each created plenty of music of their own, as a team they perform in the Baltimore area and are shopping for a record label. You can listen to more of them here and also here.

Cube - "Rampant Zoo Sex Orgy"
Cube is a young musician from Manchester that also runs his own drum'n'bass netlabel called Exegene. And although he's dabbled successfully in that genre, here he moves away from that sound a bit into erotic jazz breakbeat. Check him out on slskrex.

Atomly - "Medianoche"
Joining us from Chicago is Adam Lee, or Atomly as he's more commonly known as. He's released a couple of albums, first one being Laptop Rock and more recently, the ragga breakcore dubby electro Bad Beat. He's also split an EP with Enduser which I really like. You can find these releases on his own label, Atomiq.

The Square Root Of Evil - "Frolic"
The bad girl of the west coast Canadian geek music scene, TSROE has a cd out on Belladonna called Chirping Data, and an upcoming EP on Montreal's Ta-Da Records. She plays frequently in the Vancouver area if you want to catch her live, usually as part of some pretty mean lineups. Also check out some very cool visuals she used along with her recorded Xmas set, here.

Peekay Tayloh - "Vast Minority"
While it would seem that an album with as much depth as Sofa O.D. would be the product of an artist with many albums under his belt, it looks to me as if this is actually the debut of Pantelis Kakaroglou, at least under his Peekay Tayloh name. All I know for sure is that he lives in Athens, is releasing one more album in early 2006, and then is putting on one giant show at Bios before entering mandatory military service for a year.

December 25th
Säwe - "Brain Cloud"
After a scandalous youth in his homeland Canada, Säwe travels the world seeking political asylum, all the while gathering members for his gypsy techno supergroup Spartacus. Besides over a dozen releases under that collaborative umbrella, he's also working on some traditional Russian polka sambo tunes with Fedor Emelianenko, look for that in the coming year.

December 26th
Domotic - "Ma Stereo"
On his bio he lists friends, taking buses, dolphins, peace, love, and feeling like drawing as things he likes... and sharks and armageddon as dislikes. I was introduced to Stephane Laporte through his excellent album Bye Bye, since then he's released an even better one called Ask For Tiger, both which you can find on Active Suspension.

Sunny D. Levine - "Got Somethin For Ya"
Sunny grew up in Santa Monica, which seems apparent if you listen to enough of his west coast flavoured tunes, either with his former band Maata Haari, his side projects Bangkok Starters and The Trilambs, or his new solo album Love Rhino, check it out. Lately he's also been producing albums for Radioinactive, Mickey Avalon, and an upcoming Hugh Masekela.

Secret Mommy - "Bowls"
Coming at you from rainy Vancouver is Andy Dixon under his Secret Mommy guise, putting a mic to musical bowls and squeezing vocals through a juicer. He recently released Very Rec, which was constructed using sounds gathered from tennis matches, ice rinks, a martial arts dojo and so forth. And apparently his next project is an EP of recordings made while having his teeth pulled. His music can be found on his own label, Ache.

December 29th
Venetian Snares - "Peeing_Yelloq"
And from another, much more brutally cold part of the Canadian geography, we have Vsnares. Discogs credits him with 31 different releases as of the time of this writing, the majority of which came after the turn of the century, so he could be considered a modern day Pablo Picasso I guess. His latest two offerings are Meathole and Rossz Csillag Alatt Született, which consists of rearranged orchestral music + beats and Hungarian song titles.

Zephyr Nova - "Patterns and Parallels"
Eric Hogg taught himself guitar at age 10 and has been writing songs ever since, now creating anything from acoustic ballads to metal to noise experiments to rhythmic attacks by legions of possessed telephones. You can hear his prolificity through his various aliases, Zephyr Nova, Soma Inertia, or Solipsis.

Nedavine - "Nihongo De"
This Canterbury philosophy student has been a part of many a slskrex project over the years, where he's also known affectionately as Taffmonster. Besides contributing music to Village Recordings, also look out for an upcoming release for the Kahvi Collective.

Antenne - "Blue Light"
Antenne is a Danish band made up of Kim Hansen and Marie-Louise Munck, who have a very distinct minimalist approach to their art, often using thick layers of finely-tuned static overtop spare instrumentation and sparse vocals. They have two albums under their belt, #1 and #2, both favorites of mine and both released by Korm Plastics.
January 2nd
Svenedikt - "The Attack of the Jellyfish"
Svenni is an Icelandic artist inspired by lava, glaciers, elves and marine deserts. He is still an active member of the indie-post-rock band Han Solo and plays guitar. He is also playing in Blindfold with Biggi, lead singer and guitarist from Ampop.
January 3rd
The Flashbulb - "Smoking Blue Midi"
Benn Jordan lives in the Windy City, and his ideal weather to inspire music is 65 fahrenheit after a week of hot and humid conditions, with a severe thunderstorm warning and a supercell in the distance. As The Flashbulb he's made a variety of albums including the stunning Kirlian Selections, on Sublight. He also releases stuff on Chicago label Alphabasic.

Polichinelle - "Dans My Poitrine"
Where Indonesia and Afrika melt together we find Bubu and Serafina... click here if you'd like to hear them ripping books, cutting paper, glueing fish, breathing secrets into microphones, and playing harmoniums and dirty organs with bells and deep ocean beats.
January 7th
Orangebox - "Our Lines"
Nort has been making music with Swedish singer Åsa for about two years or so, and together they are in the finals with 9 other bands at Årets Urørt in a battle for a record deal and to be part of a Norwegian film score, so you might want to go cast your vote. In this song they both take turns singing and playing the kalimba.

Deborah - "Can We Leave This Place"
Sky is a young musician of British descent now working in a studio in Trondheim, who is also part of a collective named Deborah. Here we see him making music using a flute-like instrument fashioned from a pen, his keyboards, random noises, and the kitchen sink quite possibly. Also in this song he has vocal help from his Orangebox friends.

Peter Fuhry - "No Is A Wonderful Word"
Now we move back to the other side of the globe, Los Angelas to be specific. Peter has helped make some fantastic sounds as part of Beyond-O-Matic, Om Attack, as well as going solo. In this track he plays a Casio, a 1972 Silvertone cowboy guitar, two different ocarinas, and a "glenmorangie single malt scotch tube thingy". Also be on the lookout for his book Olias Saltpepper and the Anti-Gravity Patty.

Alice Rose - "A Poem In Slow Motion"
Alice is a Danish singer, composer and home recorder who's been in a variety of musical collaborations including Mare Nigrum, Ananda.Rose, and Bug Deluxe, but also makes amazing stuff herself, like her '99 4-track recording Subrosa and the more recent Country Songs For Broken Hearts.
