Säwe means "to sift" in my native Mennonite tongue of Low German. Which is basically how I create my tracks, sifting through all these musical accidents that I create using various methods, and then building further on the ones that I think are unique.
However I haven't put out much of my own music over the past couple of years, other than the occasional project tune. I have been working on and album for a while now and I hope to finish it soon. Here's some stuff I've made so far...
30 Days
Peppermill/2006
Set 1, Track 12: Brain Cloud
This was made within a 24 hour time span and grew organically from a Peekay Tayloh song I was to follow, I used some of his melody as well as some sounds from others in the project that came before me. The instrument is this cheap plug-in organ I found at a thrift store. The vocals are me, and the movie is Joe vs. the Volcano, a classic.
52 Weeks
Peppermill/2008
Winter, track 5: Low-Key Superstar
A collaboration with the talented rhymer B-Mor7, pass the files back and forth throughout the week doing our best we could before the deadline. Our opening stemmed from the end of Ricky Rabbit's (of Food For Animals) tune.
Battle of the Netlabels
Numia/2004 (vinyl)
track 4: Rottenfilthydirtylewdlasciviousjunk
Numia was a netlabel yellowpages of sorts based in Seattle, and they hosted this netlabel battle that I had a chance to participate in. I came in fourth and thusly managed to squeeze onto this record. All four tracks are excellent, click on the album cover to check them out, also if you'd like to hear the entire battle the songs are posted here... make sure to listen to Pale's "The Ballad of Iamlinear" because it should have won the whole thing.
One Minute Massacre volume 3
Soulseekrecords (not yet released)
set 2 track 2: The Man From Circus Nuts
The 1mm's are Soulseek Records' most popular projects, where one person makes a 1-2 minute track and then passes it along to someone else to build from it. This volume ended up being four sets and has some crazy variety. The cover art displayed here isn't the one that was actually chosen rather the one I voted for, click on it for a larger version. And if you want to listen to the massacre go here.
Auld Lang Sine-Waves
2004
A few of us slskrex'ers made new year's songs, here's mine, it goes from a bagpipes sample to something a bit surreal, but in reverse order.
Lamb remix contest
2004
Lamb - "Stronger" (Stalker Love)
I was quite happy with my dark version of this Lamb song (in fact I like it better than their original), but alas I didn't win or come close. I even drew the above image on the cover of my entry (which you had to send on a cd to them) but with my face on one lamb and Louise's on the other... and also inked it onto the disc and then put creepy fingerprints all over the packaging (also to add, I like the band a bit but not that much). They probably weren't as amused as I. It was all very tongue-in-cheek though.
A Soulseek Christmas
2003
Making $mas (Burton's Bathtub Mix)
This is just a little remix I did for a small xmas project, could be improved but it's alright for an amusing holiday tune. I can hardly believe that I found a Nightmare Before Christmas bathtub pic. Those are actually salt'n'pepper shakers.
Copyright Infringement
2004
Kokomo (BeachBoysEmbraceSaweOnTheIslandMix)
Okay this remix really needs some re-working, especially the ending, and the bass blew someone's speaker apparently... but I really like parts.
Bjork - Hidden Place (Säwe's Attic Mix)
This is my first song of any kind that I ever made that didn't get recycle binned, back in 2001 I think. I found out later that some hiphop tune uses the same sample as I opened with here, which is eerie since I found it at a very obscure place, although we didn't use it in the exact same way. Overall though, even though I never considered this track finished, it has really grown on me.
latensäwe
2004
Latency and I collaborated on one track, and then were thinking of making an entire EP but haven't gotten around to it, these though were two things that I made for it, the first having us sharing duties (I made the rhythm) and the second was me sampling his ambient "left view" track and making something to come after it. Hopefully something will come of this yet.
Saskia and Laze^ - Arla (Morning Light)
A very short remix I did of their collab, I started another longer one but accidentally erased some of the files from my computer, so that's that.
"Jennings Escapes"
Jennings is one of my favorite subjects. He comes to us from the short story Minority Report. Which the movie is almost nothing like... rather, I was surprised to find out that this story I had been sampling forever finally was made into a film starring Ben Affleck, Paycheck. The music here may or may not be used for an audiofilm in the future.
"Angels Are Voyeurs"
I took an older track of mine and read some Momus lyrics overtop.
"The Midnight Ant"
The second track from the upcoming album of mine, My Whole Life Was Meant For This Moment, it's missing some dialogue in the second half but I thought I'd upload in case people are curious. The music is basically done in all the tracks just awaiting some spoken word.
