"Tree Planting Party"
by Vicki Larnach
Now I have to admit how long ago I wrote this song. Here in Australia, we hold annual National Tree Day, when every school in the country and community groups everywhere all get their hands dirty and plant trees. It's like a big tree planting party, that was the inspiration for this song.
Originally written for kids, the lyrics are educational. What do trees do for us? I wanted to create a song that expressed an understanding of and appreciation for our symbiotic relationship with trees. Basically we cannot survive without them! How long ago was it recorded? 15 years ago!

A planet of blue, a planet of green, a planet of deserts, so much is unseen.
For millions of years the air they have cleaned,
From the trees and the forests, so much we've gleaned.
They help us, the trees help us.
Come on and plant more trees. It's easy to plant more trees.
Come on and plant more trees.
Everyone plant trees. Have a tree planting party.
Mining black coal, see the ancient trees burns.
To wood chip and paper the younger trees turn.
But people and animals breathe to survive,
We need the lungs of the forests to stay alive.
They help us, the trees help us.
The roots go down into the soil and hold it all together.
The tree grows up and branches out to give us food & shelter.
Some trees give us medicine, house animals and birds,
They block the wind and give us shade and beauty beyond words.
They store the water from the rain, so it doesn't just run down the drain.
They trap the airborne dust and soil,
and that helps the farmers with their toil.
We need our trees!
Come on and plant more trees. It's easy to plant more trees.
Come on and plant more trees.
Everyone plant trees. Have a tree planting party.
